I am messing with my new server and I am wondering if I can use the Sun JDK 1.3 for HighOrbit?

All versions of the server prior to Fall 2008 require Java SDK 1.4, and anything after requires Java SDK 1.6. I'm afraid 1.3 will not work. Sorry.

I am working on installing Tomcat this morning. It looks like you may have installed the Tomcat (5.0.28) manually into the Highorbit users directory: is this the way that highorbit will require the tomcat engine?

I think as long as you are careful on the configuration, Tomcat can be installed in any directory. I'm not sure what the differences are between .28 and .30 however. You would think there was nothing major, but you never know.

The only configuration I can think of is in the highorbit.conf file, where settings are made for the virtual URL for the Web Interface. I don't see that being dependent on the installation directory at all.

Which tables can I safely archive or clean out without losing critical data? Our mysqldump file “highorbit.sql” file is over 180MB.

For the database, 180MB isn't unusual. Some of our servers create dump files 18GB or more. Most of the tables are "self-maintained" in that they delete or purge data when a completed process expires. I can't really recommend any data that can be deleted prior to that.
